Deserting into depression

The days keep coming like a war,
Another battle at the door.
Nothing seems to go his way,
He wakes up tired every day.

He lost the job, he lost the girl,
He lost his place inside the world.
The harder life begins to hit,
The less he wants to fight with it.

There’s a soldier in the mirror,
But he’s laying down his gun.
He could try to face tomorrow,
But he’s already on the run.

He’s deserting into depression,
Leaving everything behind.
He’s surrendering to darkness,
Letting it take his mind.

He’s deserting into depression,
When the battle gets too hard.
Instead of fighting for his life,
He walks away from who he was.

The phone keeps ringing, he won’t answer,
Friends keep asking where he’s been.
The curtains stay closed all morning,
He doesn’t want to let light in.

There are battles no one sees,
There are wounds beneath the skin.
Every time the world says “Get up,”
Something tells him not to begin.

There’s a soldier in the mirror,
Still afraid to leave his room.
He keeps waiting for a rescue
While he’s building his own tomb.

He’s deserting into depression,
Leaving everything behind.
He’s surrendering to darkness,
Letting it take his mind.

He’s deserting into depression,
When the battle gets too hard.
Instead of fighting for his life,
He walks away from who he was.

But a bad life is not a sentence,
And a failure is not the end.
Even when the night feels endless,
There’s a road around the bend.

Put the weapon down, but don’t surrender,
Rest a while, but don’t give in.
Sometimes strength is asking someone
To help you start again.

He’s deserting into depression,
Leaving everything behind.
He’s surrendering to darkness,
Letting it take his mind.

He’s deserting into depression,
When the battle gets too hard.
Instead of fighting for his life,
He walks away from who he was.
